Road department outlines bridge inspection needs, applies for critical funding due April 1

Mark Heyliger and Dr. Marco Tomasi told the Administration Committee the Road Department will apply for Critical Bridge Funding for FY29 and that the application deadline is April 1.
Heyliger reviewed inspection findings for three spans: Roosevelt Road over Hickory Creek, Glendora Road over the east branch of the Galien River, and Log Cabin Road over the east branch of the Galien River. He said all three projects trigger Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) oversight and have funding rules set by that oversight; if project costs exceed the grant amount, the county would need to cover overages or secure an additional non-EGLE grant.
Heyliger said design work for Glendora Road from Cleveland Avenue to Hills Road will be completed this year, with construction slated to begin in 2027. The committee did not take a formal vote on bridge-specific funding at this meeting but signed a separate resolution authorizing applications to MDOT for Local Bridge Program funding for the FY28–29 construction season.
