Press association welcomes study of public notices as committee advances bill

The Tennessee Press Association told the committee that newspapers remain an important source for public notices and expressed willingness to participate in a study requested in a bill moved to full committee.
Chairman Crawford presented a short bill asking the Tennessee Center for Study and Review (Tassar) to study public notices and return a report to the committee. Mark Millsap, executive director of the Tennessee Press Association, told the panel that the industry's newspapers — both print and online — remain important distribution channels for public notices and that publishers welcome study participation.
Millsap said TPA represents 131 newspapers across Tennessee and that publishers are adapting to both print and online audiences. "We look forward to being part of the study and discussing public notices and how people still read and use newspapers to get their news and information every single day," he said.
Members had no questions; the committee moved the bill to full committee by unanimous vote.
