Mercer County OKs two communications towers, cites 2025 bond funding and leasing potential

The Mercer County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two contracts on June 18 to add radio infrastructure to the county system.
Resolution 2026-255 awarded Tower Services Unlimited $939,060 to install a Sabre 450-foot guyed communications tower at the Jefferson Township site; the contract covers tower template and anchor bolts, guy anchors and wire, antenna mounts, lighting, and site work. Resolution 2026-256 approved purchase of a Sabre 140-foot self-supporting communications tower for the McComb Road site for $101,538; pricing includes a geotechnical investigation, tower template and anchor bolts, antenna mounts, waveguide ladder and freight. Both projects are to be paid from the county's 2025 Bond Fund.
Commissioner Finley noted the Jefferson Township site is one of seven different tower sites planned for the county radio system and said the County would own the site and could lease space to commercial clients. The minutes record Commissioner McGonigle's comment that he "would be in favor of leasing space if there was no other tower available for the commercial leasing; he doesn't want the County to be in competition with a privately owned tower." The board voted 3-0 in favor of both resolutions.
