Planners seek curb and curb-cut limits in downtown overlay to protect pedestrians

The Planning Commission directed staff to add curbing and curb-cut limits to the Downtown Design Overlay District after discussing pedestrian-safety concerns. Heather Carrington referenced the VHB existing conditions report and the Lyndon Route 5 corridor Master Plan in recommending that the overlay include requirements for curbing and limits on the number and size of curb cuts.
Commissioners asked staff to produce draft language that would include maximum curb-cut length, a percentage-of-frontage cap and limits on the number of allowed curb cuts. The draft language will be returned for review at a future meeting.
