Commissioners appoint Wyatt Siebert to fill District 4 vacancy

Candidates addressed the board before the vote. One applicant described personal and business experience and public‑service readiness, while another said they were motivated to serve by a desire to support Autrain and Alger County: "I absolutely love where I live in Autrain. And, Alger County, I think, is the most beautiful county in the Upper Peninsula," the candidate (S7) said. Andy Sonner (S5), another applicant, summarized his academic and volunteer background and local ties.
The board closed nominations, ran elimination rounds to narrow three nominees to two, and then held a final motion and vote to appoint Siebert. Commissioners discussed making the vote by successive balloting until a majority was achieved, then recorded affirmatives to pass the motion. The board also noted that the appointee will have to stand in the next general election if they wish to continue serving.
