Jeff Goldstone of Goldstone Architecture presented several design options for rebuilding and renovating the town’s firehouse, emphasizing site constraints tied to the mapped river corridor and the integrity of the existing concrete structure. The presentation covered required setbacks, potential wetland issues, parking, elevator access for a proposed second floor, and an overall proposed building size of about 8,000 square feet to house police, rescue, fire, public space, and equipment with shared common areas.
Jack Byer, speaking from the audience, said there were discrepancies between what was planned in 1980 and what was actually built and "He suggested a survey as helpful; eStimated cost $6’000." A structural engineer’s review was reported to have found the building to be generally in good condition and that portions of the concrete could likely be reused depending on design choices. The Selectboard thanked Goldstone for the presentation and agreed to continue discussions on next steps.
