During the public comment portion of the hearing several residents reiterated concerns previously raised during the tax hearing. John Ware questioned why county staff counts had grown while the county population remained steady and urged budget cuts rather than additional taxation. Other speakers, including Rebecca Roesch and Lou Podrasky, urged continued funding for the JMAT program, noting the program’s in‑person counseling in jails.
Board members did not finalize the budget at the April 20 meeting and directed staff to incorporate public input as they prepare documents for adoption on May 4. Finance staff will produce updated budget materials reflecting any changes and clarifications before that date.
