Enrollment drop and lost federal funds squeeze Stevenson-Carson budget, staff says

During the presentation, Kathy McKee summarized multi-year funding pressures: “SCSD has lost approximately 200 students since the 2018-2019 school year. This is roughly $2 million dollars a year in funding.” She added the district’s federal SRS funds have declined “from approximately 1.2 million dollars a year to $800,000” and that those funds have not been reauthorized for the coming year.
Chair Jeff Wickersham and Superintendent Ingrid Colvard described state funding for the district as insufficient to cover rising operating costs; Wickersham said the district is classified as a Type 2 district and asserted that funding in that category does not meet real operating needs. Colvard and staff reiterated contingency planning and said the district is still awaiting $10,000 in Forest Youth Success funds from the federal government for last year’s expenses.
