Parents and staff urge board to protect counseling and extracurriculars amid consolidation talks
Summary
Community members at the April 18 hearing pressed the board to preserve counseling services and extracurriculars, warning cuts could drive families away; Superintendent Ingrid Colvard said specific staffing decisions will be clarified at the next meeting and that some programs (art, CTE) will not be cut.

Several public commenters raised concerns that proposed cuts could reduce student supports and activities if the district consolidates. One attendee warned cutting a secondary counselor would leave "the remaining counselor with 351 kids to assist," and asked what additional support would be available; Superintendent Ingrid Colvard said more information about which positions would be cut will be shared at the next board meeting.
Commenters also asked whether sixth graders housed at Carson Elementary could still participate in sports and music. Colvard said music will be offered for 6th-grade students and that a work group will examine the future of extracurricular activities; she added that some programming, including art and career and technical education (CTE), will not be cut and could see expanded opportunities under consolidation.
