Council approves road closures for Community Days and Vacation Bible School

The Sumas City Council approved road closures for Community Days on June 27 and for the Christian Reformed Church’s Vacation Bible School July 6–10, and waived the associated fees for both events.
The Sumas City Council on June 22 approved temporary road closures to accommodate Community Days on June 27, 2026, and a Vacation Bible School hosted by the Christian Reformed Church from July 6–10, 2026. Stacey Daly of Wilson Lane requested closures for Community Days, including Sumas Avenue from the tennis courts to the bridge, Second and Third Streets between Sumas Avenue and Cherry Street, and Railroad Avenue while the parade is staged. Councilmember Jessica Koehler made the motion to approve the Community Days closures; Councilmember Richard Postma seconded and the motion carried.
The council also approved a separate request by the Christian Reformed Church to close Sumas Avenue (from Third Street and Columbia Street to the bridge) for Vacation Bible School, July 6–10 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and voted to waive the road-closure fee. Motion language recorded in the minutes states, “Councilmember Koehler made a motion to approve the road closures for Community Days.” The council voted unanimously in favor of both closures and the associated fee waivers.
