Northville Public Schools held a public hearing on July 29, 2026, to consider a waiver that would allow the 2026–27 school year to begin on Aug. 31, 2026, a date that falls before Labor Day. Superintendent R.J. Weber opened the hearing at about 03:30 and invited Emily Polonsky to present the district's rationale.
Polonsky, the presentation lead, said the proposed start date "08/31/2026, which is before Labor Day," better aligns the district calendar with its early middle college program and the college-class schedules of students enrolled in that program. She told the hearing the calendar was agreed upon in collaboration with employee union groups over a year ago and has been published on the district website and in newsletters for more than a year. Polonsky said one objective of the revised calendar is to avoid an "asymmetric calendar" that in some years pushes the end of the first semester into late January and the last day of school for students much later into June.
Polonsky asked if the community had questions and noted there were no public comment cards. With no comments or questions recorded, Superintendent R.J. Weber closed the hearing and adjourned the meeting at 03:33.
The public hearing notice was posted on 07/16/2026; the district did not record any public comments during the July 29 hearing and did not take a formal vote during this session.
