Parker County to formalize donations handling with United Way after tornado damage

County staff said an MOU with the United Way of Parker County will make the nonprofit the fiduciary for donated money, goods and services related to the disaster, streamlining distribution and avoiding county-level micromanagement of donations.
Parker County staff told commissioners they will execute a memorandum of understanding with United Way of Parker County to manage donations resulting from the recent tornadoes and storm damage.
Jason explained county government is not structured to accept and manage donations directly; the MOU would designate the United Way as fiduciary to accept and distribute money, goods and services. He said the arrangement permits a coordinated committee to match donated items with verified community needs and improves transparency about where donations go.
Staff described separate arrangements for damage in Mineral Wells (managed by that city) and for damage in Springtown (to be routed through United Way). Jason also reported the Springtown donation center had assisted 133 households and 493 individuals and that United Way is coordinating volunteers and nonprofit partners to process throughput.
Commissioners authorized the MOU in open court and said staff would continue pushing contact information and donation guidance via social media and partner networks so donors know the appropriate channels for different affected areas.
