The Brown County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a setback variance for Elizabeth and Hans Larsen’s property at 7225 Center Lake Road in Nineveh, within the Cordry Sweetwater Conservancy District. Planning Director Kayla Robertson read the staff report and Ethan Martin representing Herald Construction explained that stairs and the septic location constrain where a storage structure could be placed.
Robertson clarified that the Conservancy approves water-front builds and that plan-commission jurisdiction applies beyond the property line. Jane Gore asked about notice and Robertson confirmed six certified mailings were sent and four were returned. Board members expressed concern that approvals in the Lake District have set precedents; President John Dillberger suggested the Lake District either be exempted from the current ordinance or that the ordinance be amended to reflect lake realities, while still acknowledging the variance as a "flagrant violation" of the current ordinance before voting to approve.
No members of the public spoke for or against the petition. The board moved and seconded the approval and recorded unanimous yes votes.
