CJCC seeks greater independence; Ad Hoc Public Safety Facility Committee remains advisory
Summary
Legislative operations staff said the Ad Hoc Public Safety Facility Committee is advisory and awaiting clarifying language from the County Attorney. At the May 20 CJCC meeting, the council asked to rescind the original coordinating-committee resolution so it could elect its own leadership rather than accept appointments from the legislative chair.

Leslie Church, Legislative Operations, reminded the committee that the county’s Ad Hoc Public Safety Facility Committee is advisory to the Legislature and said the group is awaiting language from the County Attorney to formalize that status. Church’s remarks were entered for the record as information and will be followed up when the County Attorney provides the requested language.
Committee Chair Pat Killen reported on the May 20 Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) meeting, saying the group reviewed bylaws and "wanted to be more of an independent committee"; the CJCC asked that the Legislature rescind the original resolution that named leadership appointments so the CJCC could elect its own chair, vice chair and secretary. The committee was informed the Sheriff would provide updated bylaws for later consideration.
