Social Services warns SNAP rule changes could close 50–80 cases; youth programs and appointments noted

Amy Miller, Commissioner of Social Services, briefed the Human Services Committee on multiple department items and asked the committee to forward several authorizations and appointments. Miller said two appointments (Julie Dunkelberger and Taylor Martin) and one reappointment (Cindy Easling) were being advanced to the Youth Board and that a caseworker resigned May 18 for medical reasons.
Miller highlighted program and policy changes tied to federal SNAP/ABAWD rules, telling the committee that at the end of May she expected "between 50 and 80 SNAP cases will be closed because the people did not participate," and said affected people will lose benefits and cannot reapply until October. She also reported that students already on SNAP or temporary assistance will receive additional funds on summer EBT cards, and that swim‑lesson programs and WIOA‑funded workforce training are underway.
