Officials say Kendall County may need $2.5M–$3M from fund balance as budget gaps persist

Corinne told the court the county's current fund balance stood at $23,015,000 as of Oct. 1 and that after planned transfers the year-end balance is estimated at about $20–21 million if no unexpected costs materialize.
Corinne said the $2.5 million estimate includes a potential $2.0 million real-estate acquisition, about $500,000 for engineering and other capital, indexing for district clerks, ambulance and IT equipment, and a $300,000 space-needs study. She cautioned the court that the figure depends heavily on property-tax certification from the appraisal district, which staff expected to receive shortly; she asked commissioners to reserve flexibility on contingency and hiring timing.
The court discussed ways to phase hires midyear (e.g., April 1) and to place new positions in contingency to avoid using fund balance for recurring operating costs. No final fund-balance draw was adopted during the session.
