Corinne and other staff noted the sheriff had provided a different number on Friday, $893,663, which omitted any new hires. Commissioners flagged the discrepancy as material: the two figures differ by about $300,000 and hinge on whether the county funds three new dispatch positions and related upgrades. Corinne explained the judge's number includes "the 3 new dispatchers, 1 on each shift," while the sheriff's submission "includes no new additions."
The court asked staff to verify the correct shared-cost total and how it should be reflected in the FY27 budget book before the next session. Commissioners also discussed phasing a new interjurisdictional cost split from 42/41/17 to a 40/40/20 split (Kendall/Boerne/Fair Oaks) beginning in FY28 and phasing changes in this year to reduce immediate tax-rate pressure.
Next steps: staff will follow up with the sheriff and the communications contractor to reconcile the two totals, then present an updated figure to the court at the next budget meeting. The court did not adopt a final number during the special-called session.
