Floyd County signs local-match commitment for Edwardsville Community Center

Commissioner Al Knable called a joint meeting of the Floyd County Commissioners and County Council to order on Feb. 24, 2026, and members unanimously approved adding a local-match item for the Edwardsville Community Center to the agenda.
Nick Creevy of the Redevelopment Commission told the body the Edwardsville School project has READI 2.0 funding of $2,050,000 and is locally committed to a 50/50 match. "They received $2,050,000.00 in funding and locally committed to a match of 50/50," Creevy said, and added that newer construction estimates are substantially higher than earlier figures. He said an additional $500,000 would be needed under current plans, and a full replacement of the gym could raise that to roughly $900,000. "He has requested the $916,000.00 to make up the difference," Creevy said, and asked the county to sign a local-match commitment letter on the assumption additional READI funding is not received.
Following the presentation, Commissioner Frank Loop moved and Commissioner Jason Sharp seconded a motion to sign the Local Match Commitment Letter; the motion passed unanimously. The county will provide the requested commitment as part of the project's financing package while the Redevelopment Commission continues to pursue additional READI 2.0 grant funding.
The action formalizes the county's pledge to meet the local share for the Edwardsville Community Center project pending final cost and funding updates. Staff did not list specific implementation dates for county disbursements at the meeting.
