Residents press Select Board for public process, one-year trial on proposed ATV ordinance

A resident during citizen input asked whether the town will form a committee to draft the proposed ATV ordinance or simply accept the riding club's draft. "And are you gonna have a committee work on that, or are you just gonna take what the club is giving you?" the resident asked.
The chair (S1) said the Select Board intends to implement a one-year trial period if an ordinance is adopted: "we are going to do that 1 year trial period and see where it looks" and invited residents to bring problems to the board during the trial. Select Board member S2 said the process will be public and recommended the board hire an attorney to confirm whether the board can limit usage to members of a single club and which roads might lawfully be opened; S2 asked for permission to contact attorney Gary Kuffler for guidance on wording and legal limits.
Board members clarified that the riding club has started the process and will provide draft language, but the Select Board retains final authority. The board agreed the ordinance drafting will be a public process and accepted the recommendation to seek legal counsel before finalizing language.
