Most Buffalo County inmates housed in Trempealeau County as transports increase, CJCC told

Emily Scholl presented the Buffalo County Jail report at the March 18 CJCC meeting, saying the majority of Buffalo County inmates are currently being housed in the Trempealeau County Jail, with one inmate housed in the Crawford County Jail and one in the Pepin County Jail.
"The majority of Buffalo County inmates are currently being housed in the Trempealeau County Jail," Scholl said, and added that inmate transports are increasing as more inmates request to appear in court in person. She noted, however, that transports dipped in February 2026.
The minutes include attached reports for the Buffalo and Pepin jail rosters and note that inter-county housing is being used to manage capacity. Pepin County's report, presented separately by Lora Feuling, listed nine inmates in custody with three using recovery coach services.
The CJCC did not adopt new policy at the meeting on housing or transport; Scholl’s report was entered into the record for ongoing monitoring by CJS staff.
