Lancaster County Election Board appoints poll workers and machine inspectors for May 19 primary

The Lancaster County Board of Elections voted unanimously May 18 to adopt Resolution No. 3 of 2026, authorizing temporary appointments of judges of election, majority and minority inspectors, machine inspectors, clerks and pre‑canvass/canvass personnel for the May 19, 2026 Municipal Primary. Commissioner Joshua G. Parsons moved the resolution and Commissioner Alice Yoder seconded; the motion passed unanimously.

Christa Miller, Chief Clerk and Chief Registrar for the Board of Elections, said the resolution covers staffing across the county's 240 polling locations and relies on statutory authority for emergency appointments. She told the board that the action is taken under the county's pool of trained electors and the Election Code provisions permitting such appointments in the days immediately before an election: "this resolution pertains to the appointment of judges of election, majority and minority inspectors, machine inspectors, clerks, pre-canvassers, and other essential roles across all 240 polling locations throughout the county." The resolution cites Section 404 and Section 405 of the Pennsylvania Election Code and Act 12 of 2020 to authorize appointments for the day of the Municipal Primary only.

Under the adopted language, appointees are valid for May 19, 2026, and any positions filled by appointment will be deemed vacant the day after the Primary. The resolution also names persons to serve as machine inspectors where multiple voting machines are used and designates staff to assist with pre‑canvassing and canvassing duties until those tasks are complete.
