Council supports extending resident recreation rates to city staff pending policy updates

The proposal’s stated aim was to be "even handed" and to signal that staff are welcome participants in city programs. "Basically, just trying to make it a little bit more, even handed and maybe send a signal to our staff that we welcome them as part of the Johns Creek community... and not charge them an outside the city premium," the agenda speaker said.
Staff told council that implementing the change would require amendments to the nonresident fee policy and the recreation and parks fee schedule and that the typical path is review first by the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee (RPAC) before returning to council. Several members voiced support, asking for guardrails to prevent abuse (for example, non-residents obtaining resident rates by routing through a staff member). Staff agreed to draft the policy changes and bring the matter to RPAC and then council for formal adoption.
