Johns Creek staff to submit bicycle-friendly community application; June 25 deadline

Councilmember Larry introduced a proposal to pursue a national bicycle-friendly community designation and described it as a staged process that should begin with a modest membership commitment. "My recommendation, let's start low so the numbers are very, very, very low as far as getting into it," he said.

City Manager Kimberly Greer told council the application is due June 25 and that staff is assembling documentation of existing policies, infrastructure and prior investments. "The application is due on June 25. We are well on our way to completing the initial application, which involves documenting all of our existing policies, plans, and investments that we have already constructed in the community," Greer said. The process includes a community survey phase and a December review that will indicate whether the city earns bronze, silver or higher recognition. Staff said no formal council vote appears required to submit the application, but council asked staff to return with specifics if an action item becomes necessary.
