Executive Director Michelle Hilton Terry presented an item for the CRA to serve as a co-applicant on a planning grant for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The planning grant could provide up to $300,000 to support pedestrian amenities and planning work along MLK Boulevard; staff noted that, if awarded, later implementation funding may also be available.
Commissioners asked whether the planning grant would align with MPO work and whether it would duplicate prior efforts. Staff confirmed the MPO sponsored a prior application but did not have capacity this year; the CRA will step in to sponsor the application. The board approved the motion to be a co-applicant and directed staff to proceed with application and coordination on scope and MPO alignment.
If awarded, the grant will fund planning work that could inform future capital investments along the corridor.
