Council Approves One-Year EDA Extension for Leeward Renewable Energy Project

Sam Brooks of Leeward Renewable Energy requested a one-year extension for an Economic Development Administration (EDA) agreement for proposed Blackford County wind and solar projects, saying the project has not started and the current EDA approval was scheduled to expire in December 2024. "Sam Brooks, Leeward Renewable Energy, LLC request one year extension for EDA for Blackford wind and solar projects," the minutes record. Council President Jack Beckley presided as Council member Ryan Goodspeed moved to approve the extension; Fred Tobey seconded the motion.
The motion carried 6–1, with Council member Karen Mealy recorded as voting nay. The minutes note permits had been issued in 2022 and the applicant requested the extension because of a change in project dates. The council did not record additional conditions on the extension in the minutes.
