Developer and staff seek conveyance of small rail parcels near Myrtle Beach depot for park, library and museum

Chair introduced Brian Tucker to present a focused request to secure two small parcel areas adjacent to the Myrtle Beach train depot needed to advance a planned park and two buildings.
"It's only really about 0.333 of an acre in yellow that we're talking about and about 0.333 of an acre in the green that we're talking about," Tucker said, describing the small footprint the project needs to proceed. Tucker said the two yellow parcels (one just west of the depot and one east) are necessary for the planned library and children's museum with apartments above and that the project team would need "some kind of an arrangement on the railroad right away" to move forward. He said one parcel could be conveyed to the city or to a private developer depending on the preferred approach and that portions to the south would likely remain parking or green space in perpetuity.
A council member asked whether the county would convey the yellow parcel to the City of Myrtle Beach or to a private developer; Tucker confirmed the request was for "full conveyance of the piece closest to the train depot" but said the ultimate control of development (library/museum vs. private development) remained under discussion. Council recorded no opposition during the presentation and the item was left for follow-up action.
