Faribault County board calls April 14 special election on whether recorder should be appointed

Commissioner Greg Young moved the resolution and Commissioners Bill Groskreutz, Greg Young and Chair Bruce Anderson voted in favor; Commissioners Tom Loveall and Gertrude Paschke voted no. The resolution approved by the board includes the ballot question: "Shall the office of Faribault County Recorder be appointed rather than elected at the expiration of the current term?"
The resolution cites Minnesota Statutes Chapter 375A as the authority for moving to an optional form of government that permits appointment of certain county offices. It sets the special election date of April 14, 2026 and notes that the date complies with timing requirements relative to the May 19, 2026 start of candidate filing for the November general election.
