Commissioners consolidate surveyor code, approve penalties and corner‑perpetuation contracts

The Board of Commissioners approved reorganizing county code to consolidate surveyor matters into a new Title 19 to improve clarity and recordkeeping. Chief of Staff Chris Cloud presented the retitling and the board carried the motion 3-0.
Allen County Surveyor Mike Fruchey introduced an addition to Title 19 (Article 4) to clarify penalties for anyone who disturbs or damages established section-corner markers; he stated that 25 percent of county markers have been perpetuated since the county began the project about three years ago. The board approved the Article 4 addition 3-0.
The board also approved two corner‑perpetuation contracts: DLZ to work in Madison Township with a not‑to‑exceed amount of $147,885, and ForeSight Consulting to work in Jackson Township not to exceed $98,600. Fruchey said DLZ estimates there are about 75 existing markers in Madison Township. Commissioners approved both contracts by unanimous recorded vote.
