Commissioners approve contract to place trained professional at Seymour High School

Jackson County Commissioners on Oct. 21 approved a contract enabling a trained professional from Centerstone to work with Seymour High School students referred by guidance counselors for substance use, vaping and related concerns. Karla Hubbard of the county Health Department presented the agreement and said it is the second grant-funded placement supported by Health First Indiana.
Hubbard told commissioners the professional may refer students to services outside the school setting and that the Health Department is hopeful Seymour Community School will assume funding after Health First Indiana support is depleted. County Attorney Susan Bevers confirmed the contract language changed the title from 'social worker' to 'trained professional.' Commissioners Stauffer and Markel voted to approve and sign the contract (motion carried, 2 yes votes).
