County awards decontamination work, moves to lease DMV space as office building remains closed

The Legislature advanced several actions tied to the ongoing closure of the Cayuga County Office Building. Resolution 32-26 authorized a $31,950 contract with Sessler Environmental Services to construct three decontamination chambers, remove leased copiers and specified IT equipment and decontaminate those assets so they can be reused or returned. The contract is to be paid from the Buildings & Grounds professional services line in the 2026 budget.
To accommodate departments displaced by the office closure, the Legislature also authorized a lease with Dill Street Commons, LLC, for roughly 2,000 square feet of turn-key space to house DMV operations. The lease schedule identifies Year 1 base rent of $17,950 (effective price per square foot Year 1: $8.98) with rising annual rent in years two through five; occupancy may begin no earlier than May 1, 2026. The resolution allows the Chair to execute the lease subject to County Attorney approval and passed with one recorded no vote.
Planning & Public Works Chair Robert Shea and Ways & Means Chair Elane Daly sponsored the measures. The Sessler contract and lease were approved to enable equipment recovery and continuity of essential motor-vehicle services while remediation continues.
