Cayuga County approves public-health contracts, WIC/WIC-assistant hires and CYSHCN grant acceptance
Summary

The Legislature approved several Health Department items on Jan. 29. Resolution 09-26 authorizes a letter of agreement with Cornell’s Animal Health Diagnostic Center at $60 per specimen for rabies specimen preparation, shipping and carcass disposal, to be paid from the Health Department budget.
Separately, Resolution 10-26 authorizes creation and filling of a WIC Assistant (HELP Program) position (grade 4, CSEA bargaining unit) with full grant reimbursement under the WIC program; the County classified the role as non-competitive under the HELP program. Resolution 11-26 authorizes acceptance of a five-year Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) grant totaling $334,335 (year one award $93,407) to support information-and-referral services.
Health & Human Services Chair Amy Sargent and Ways & Means Chair Elane Daly sponsored the measures; motions for these items were recorded as passing at the meeting. The resolutions direct the chair and department directors to execute contracts and instruct Finance to post necessary accounting entries.
