Staff presents menu of tourism-zone incentives; committee plans work session

Christine described a redevelopment bonus that could be tacked onto other incentives when a business occupies a building vacant for 12 or more months, and gave an example where a new restaurant that creates 12 jobs and invests $400,000 could qualify for a standard incentive plus a redevelopment bonus. Committee members questioned how very small businesses would qualify and staff said the menu is illustrative and the council can tailor thresholds. The committee agreed to read the material, receive links to the examples from VTC, and return with a work-session discussion to map potential zone boundaries and incentive priorities.
