Commission recommends allowing reduced setbacks in Ag districts via Conditional Use

After initial tabling, the ordinance was revisited later in the joint meeting. The commission adopted amendments adjusting the maximum permitted decreases to certain setbacks and then removed the commercial/industrial district portion of the proposal. The motion to recommend Ordinance 01-26, with the planning commission's proposed amendments, passed unanimously and staff performed a first reading; the second reading is scheduled for July 21, 2026.
Commission discussion noted the benefits of offering a Conditional Use pathway as an alternative to variances and debated the appropriate distances for front, side and rear yard reductions. No public testimony was recorded on the amended ordinance during the second hearing segment.
