The Royal City Council on Nov. 18 approved a $20,000 payment to the Royal Golf Association for the purchase of a mower, a decision that was smaller than the $30,000 the association had requested. The motion to approve the payment was made by Councilmember Piercy and seconded by Councilmember Kannely; the motion carried.
During the meeting’s public comment period, Josh Fanning recommended increasing RV rental fees and urged the council to fund less than the amount requested by the Royal Golf Association. Mayor Michael Christensen said the council would research how other municipalities operate golf courses before proceeding with further support. The mayor also noted the council will need two additional members in January and asked for assistance recruiting candidates.
