Chief Rufe described the chili cook-off as an open-house, countywide event organized with Greene County EMS that will "float between the fire department, the police department, and the EMS garage" on 12th Street. "You can come and eat for free if you wanted to, or you can donate if you wish," Chief Rufe said, noting that winning teams will select a Greene County nonprofit to receive proceeds. Another committee member called the event list "pretty straightforward." The committee recorded no objections and approved the events in a single vote.
The decision formalizes short-term public-safety and community-engagement events intended to support fire prevention outreach and provide fundraising opportunities for local nonprofits. No additional funding allocations or permits were discussed during the meeting; staff will proceed with event logistics under existing authorities.
