Board of Public Works approves Atlas Grinding quote for yard-waste and leaf grinding

The Board of Public Works approved a contract recommendation to hire Atlas Grinding of Hortonville, Wisconsin, to perform the city—s two annual yard-waste and leaf grindings. Street Supervisor Kyle Groppenstein told the board that Atlas quoted $675 per hour with an eight-hour minimum and that two scheduled grindings would total roughly $10,800, "which is about 1000 dollars under budget." Groppenstein said the professional services line in the street department budget shows $12,000 for this work.

Groppenstein reviewed three vendor proposals and recommended Atlas. He said one vendor based in Oregon appeared cheaper per-hour but required two tractor loaders and a mobilization fee that pushed that option just over budget; another vendor in Seymour quoted approximately $8,300 for a single grinding, which would have exceeded the budget. "We've used Atlas grinding, I think, 8, 9 years now in a row," Groppenstein said, adding that the company delivers a consistent end product and has repaired equipment issues at no extra charge in the past. The board moved to approve the Atlas quote, carried a roll-call vote with Alders Trendy, Knoll and Truhart recorded as voting "aye," and forwarded the item to the full council.
