Cowley County adopts 2026 Noxious Weeds plan, OKs up to $45,561.10 for herbicides

Eric Neal, Cowley County’s Noxious Weeds Director, presented the 2026 Annual Management Plan and the commission approved it unanimously. Vice Chairman Alan Groom moved to adopt the plan and Commissioner Wayne Wilt seconded; the motion passed 3-0.
Neal also outlined a 2026 cost-share program for chemical herbicides for private landowners and said staff added several herbicides after landowner requests. Commissioners approved the cost-share program 3-0. Neal summarized bids for county purchases from Nutrien, Wickman, Sims and Van Diest and recommended a procurement approach that would buy from the lowest-cost vendor rather than a single supplier. The commission approved purchasing from Van Diest or Nutrien, whichever is lowest, for county use for the 2026 season "not to exceed $45,561.10," with a recorded vote of 3-0. Neal noted, "Van Diest has their own trucks and can deliver by the next day if ordered prior to 3:00 pm."
