Committee approves elevator and generator contracts; hears broad Buildings & Grounds project updates

The Public Works Committee authorized two professional service contracts in the Buildings & Grounds segment: a contract with TKE Elevator Corporation for regular maintenance and repairs to elevators at various county buildings not to exceed $10,000 (effective Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026; Motion: Leuer; Ayes:6; Absent: Rudgers) and a contract with Ferguson Electric, Inc. to perform a load study for generator upsizing at the Fire Training Center in an amount not to exceed $5,556 (effective Apr. 15–Dec. 31, 2026; Motion: Leuer; Ayes:6; Absent: Rudgers).
Staff also provided project updates: the county jail project remains on hold pending additional discussion with Kideney and the County Attorney and window replacement is urgent; 450 N. Main is gutted pending utility survey and build-out plans; Animal Shelter water testing found no bacteria but high mineral content and staff recommended a water softener; outside kennels and fencing are in place but gate installation remains. The committee discussed 44 Center Street storage RFP (results next month) and a preliminary $1M estimate to renovate 5,000 sq. ft. for Public Defender offices. Supervisor Kehl urged planning for future needs.
