Troup County board approves grants and capital projects including trails grant submission, burn building, FAA transfer and parking expansion

The county manager presented several consent and special business items that the board approved by voice vote on May 5.
The board authorized staff to submit a resolution to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for a Recreational Trails Program grant. The county manager said staff were asking only for authorization to submit the resolution and answered commissioners' questions; a motion to approve submission carried.
The board also approved a request from the fire department to construct a 2026 Burn Building, with funds to come from the county’s CIP/capital fund, and approved a transfer of FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) entitlement funds in the amount of $150,000 to another FAA‑approved airport sponsor. The manager confirmed that expenditures will follow state guidelines for bidding and county purchasing policies.
Finally, the board approved a $209,615 parking‑lot expansion for the Harris Complex with funds from SPLOST 5 to address parking shortages at recreation ball fields. Commissioners said the improvements aim to ease congestion at events.
