Edgewater to offer sandbags; council weighs renting vac truck to speed ditch clearing

Councilwoman Gillis said crews and field staff repeatedly told her the single vac truck is a limiting resource and requested either a short-term rental or immediate purchase. "The number one thing you think right now would help us? Vac truck, vac truck, vac truck," she said, describing staff feedback from crews on the ground. Staff told the council that renting a unit for a couple of months is feasible and that purchasing could be considered in the next fiscal year; council gave directional support for finding immediate rented resources while budget timing is evaluated.
Residents also suggested using local volunteers and high-school groups to help fill sandbags; the mayor and manager said they would continue outreach and follow up with contact cards submitted by residents.
