Residents describe severe flooding in Florida Shores; offer volunteer help and land donation

At the podium, Jerry Khan offered the city more than 100 acres near State Road 42 to be used "in perpetuity to help solve the flood issues," saying he would donate the property for retention and to freeze development there. Residents described repeated flooding — some recalling Hurricane Ian and newer, unexpected inundation from recent rain — and urged expedited work on roadside swales, culverts and retention ponds.
Community members proposed immediate, low-cost measures including sandbag distribution, volunteer ditch-cleaning, use of private equipment offered by local property owners and short-term enforcement actions against developers where practices worsened runoff. Council asked staff to inventory current grants and to post material on a public grants and projects page so residents can track grant-funded work.
