Troup County recognizes Scottie Johnson with Richard English Jr. 'Strongest Link' award; staff receive service honors

Troup County commissioners on June 2 recognized Scottie Johnson as the recipient of the Richard English Jr. Strongest Link Award of Excellence for May 2026 and presented a series of employee service awards.
The Human Resources representative said the Strongest Link award honors an employee who demonstrates "excellent performance, productivity, loyalty, professional pride, and other noteworthy accomplishments," and read excerpts from the nomination that praised Johnson's positive attitude, volunteer work and support for accountability-court participants. "He always has a positive attitude while interacting with coworkers, participants, and the public," the Human Resources representative said.
The representative also thanked local donors Graves Collins and Longhorn Steakhouse for contributions to the recipient's gift bag. In addition to the Strongest Link award, the board presented 5-, 10-, 15- and 20-year service awards to a group of employees, naming recipients including Sherry Owens (senior accounting technician, finance), Jamie Thomas (detention/detail officer, sheriff's office), William Adams (truck driver, Rosen Engineering), Caleb Baron (deputy sheriff), Raymond Gates (sergeant, sheriff's office), Karina Gomez Cobo (senior juvenile probation officer), Jessica Hurston (detention officer), Bridal Fuller (deputy sheriff, SRO), Faustina Gross (administrative assistant, 2 Rivers) and Renee Hinkle (deputy tax commissioner). The presenters said the named employees collectively represented 80 years of service to the county.
The recognition was presented during the morning work session; commissioners offered thanks and congratulations to the honorees. The award and service recognitions do not require board action.
