Committee approves major Hurrell-Harring grant increase and indigent parolee contract

Public Defender L. Nowotarski informed the committee of a Hurrell-Harring grant contract amendment (Contract# CSTWIDE252) that increases total funding to $4,171,673.73—an overall increase of $1,536,932.73—and extends the term to Dec.31, 2027. The committee carried the resolution by recorded vote.
The committee also authorized a professional services contract with the Wyoming County-Attica Legal Aid Bureau for the Indigent Parolee Program in an amount not to exceed $95,126 for the April 1, 2026–March 31, 2027 term (MUNIS Contract #3712); motion by Berwanger carried with seven ayes. Nowotarski provided a staffing update, including a secretary and assistant public defender starting in the coming months and two legal interns expected in June pending county administrator approval.
