Planning Commission hears plea to place manufactured home near elderly parents in variance request

Planning staff presented a variance request under section 59-16o5 of the county code to allow an additional principal structure on a 19.75-acre property at 1410 South Yal Mill Road. The request, staff said, would permit placing a manufactured home on a parcel that would otherwise require a variance for an additional principal dwelling.
The staff member (speaker 4) described the site and noted that the property is nearly 20 acres and the proposed location for the additional dwelling is well away from the existing homes. "Staff does believe this to be a low intensive request," the staff member said and recommended approval.
The applicant's representative (speaker 8), who identified himself as Steven Pleas and gave an address at 1410 Yal Mill Road, spoke in favor and said the manufactured home would allow the family to live closer to elderly parents who need care: "Our parents are now 80, about to be 81 years old," Pleas said, explaining the decision is driven by caregiving needs.
The commission moved and seconded approval and recorded affirmative voice votes; the item will be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for final action on March 25.
