Google data center pitched to Barber County; residents and local leaders raise concerns

Rene Ramirez of Osofino opened a public presentation about a proposed Google data center at the Barber County Annex on Jan. 12, 2026. Representatives from FinoAdvisors and Google — Trystine Payfer and Andrew Harnish, respectively — presented a slideshow describing site and development considerations and emphasized that the proposal remains in very early planning and its future is uncertain.
Lindsey Campbell, chief executive officer of Southern Pioneer, described potential local implications if a data center were located within her company's territory, and resident Herbie Landwehr raised concerns about community effects. Commissioners said they would consider outreach and continued discussion but made no commitments to approve or reject any proposal at this meeting.
