Ellis County introduces new employees and flags EMS call volumes, jail capacity
Summary
Human Resources introduced new staff and commissioners noted EMS averaging 10 calls per day and that the county jail is at capacity and housing inmates out of county.
At the May 5 meeting Human Resources Manager Jennifer Taylor introduced the county’s newest employees and recent promotions: EMTs Slade Salmans and Kimberly Sack; Heavy Equipment Operator I Bob Shubert; Deputy I promotion Nate Karlin; Deputy II promotion Andrew Sheely; and Detention Officer Jacob Hayes.
Commissioner Nathan Leiker also reported that Emergency Medical Services are consistently making about 10 calls per day and that the county jail is at capacity, requiring inmates to be housed outside the county. Commissioners did not take policy action on those operational matters during the meeting, but the observations were recorded in departmental reports.
Commissioners additionally reported recent travel and community events: Leiker attended the Crisis Intervention Center ribbon cutting and a trip to Washington, D.C.; Berges attended a KCAMP board meeting and discussed expected insurance rate increases and appraisal protest counts; Chair Younger attended meetings in Washington, D.C., the Options meeting and the Kansas County Commissioners Association meeting.
