Neighbors raise traffic, noise and flooding concerns; county sends ledge quarry application back to planners

A proposed ledge rock quarry at 11693 K99 Highway in the Ink Age Farms application prompted significant neighborhood concern and a split recommendation from the Planning Commission. At the county meeting, property owners Robert Sage and Adam Hinck presented a newly designated entrance intended to limit travel on township roads. Multiple neighbors, including Robert Warren, Andie Tranter, Rocky Valentine, John Waugh and Shirley Waugh, "shared concerns for traffic, noise, erosion control and flooding," according to the minutes.
The Planning Commission had voted 4 in favor and 7 against the permit at its April meeting. After hearing the property owners and neighbors, commissioners voted to return the Planning Commission's recommendation for clarification, asking planners to explain why approval was denied and whether the proposed entrance changes cure the haul-route concerns. The Planning Commission will next meet May 21 at the Alma Community Center for further consideration.
