Regional library board asks county to phase in staff health insurance via larger stipend

Riley told commissioners the board "would like to work toward providing Health Insurance coverage by increasing the contribution toward the stipend each year until providing coverage is feasible in the budget."
Officials presented the library's proposed 2027 operating budget at $1,017,212 and noted Wabaunsee County's share would be about $190,309.51, an increase of roughly 13% over the prior year. The board said the largest single increase in the 2027 library budget would be the health insurance stipend, estimated to cost about $130,000 in 2027 (an increase of $65,000 over the previous year). Commissioners received the report; no formal county funding action was recorded at the meeting.
