Tourism groups, festivals and nonprofits press council for hotel/motel and program support

A series of tourism and community organizations addressed the Anamosa City Council seeking funding, partnership or recognition. Derek of Jones County Economic Development highlighted recent and potential downtown investments and Brownfields assessment work; he said the latest downtown application could generate more than "$1,800,000 invested from the state alone in the downtown of Anamosa."
Angela Weinkauf, representing Anamosa Festivals Incorporated, told council the group uses grant funds to cover overhead such as insurance and a post office box and asked that the council continue support for events including PumpkinFest. Don Harderson of Anamosa Rotary asked the council to consider $3,000 to offset rising fireworks costs, noting business donations have declined. City staff read a request from the Grant Wood Art Gallery for $4,500 to expand outreach; Jones County Tourisms director described recent rebranding, influencer partnerships and a new web presence aimed at drawing multi-day visits.
Lisa Talman (Jones County Senior Center) outlined senior dining operations and funding: federal dollars cover roughly one-third of costs, with the program relying on contributions, donations and city/county support; she estimated Anamosa will receive about 9,000 meals next year (roughly 6,000 home-delivered and 3,000 congregate). Council members said no funding decisions would be made that evening and that requests would be considered during the coming budget review process.
