Broadband coordinator urges community engagement as BEAD/other grant windows open

Autumn Marshall, ECI Regional Planning District Broadband Coordinator, told commissioners there was no update yet on BEAD awards but that Round 1 selections are underway and the Digital Opportunity Grant window will open later this spring.
"The grant window will open April 30, 2025 with awards being made by July 15th, 2025," Ms. Marshall said, and recommended strong community participation in application webinars scheduled May 5 and June 5. She also described possibilities for digital skills training and building computer labs at county libraries, and said advisors on the Digital Opportunity Grant were willing to meet with commissioners directly if requested.
Commissioners gave Ms. Marshall permission to apply for relevant grants and discussed partnerships with local libraries and the John Jay Center for Learning to expand access and training.
